This date in Cardinals history
On Sept. 4, 1987, Tony Pena hit a two-run, tie-breaking homer in the eighth inning off Mark Davis to give the Cardinals a 4-2 win over the Padres at Busch Stadium. The Cards held on to a 3 1/2-game lead over the second-place Mets with the victory.
