NEIGHBORHOODS
Center City
This area stretches from Washington Square to 30th Street Station. Broad Street divides this downtown area. Along Race and Vine Streets is Philadelphia's Chinatown. The Avenue of the Arts calls Broad Street home on the South side. This are of the sity boasts several cultural points, such as the Merriam Theater and is now the resting spot of the Kimmel Center, a new arts and entertainment venue.

Old City
Take a carriage ride down the cobblestone streets to see the Liberty Bell or visit the nation's birthplace at Independence Hall. Continue this historical trip with a tour of the Betsy Ross House or the U.S. Mint.

South Philadelphia
Get your famous Philly cheesesteak at Pat's or Geno's in South Philadelphia. Along with the city's sports venues, you can also find the Mummer's Museum and the Italian Market in this area of town.

University City
America's first university, the University of Pennsylvania is located in this area of the city. In this diverse area, one can find a variety of excellent ethnic eateries.

Manayunk
For new and unusual shopping, visit Manayunk. This area is located along the Schuylkill River and is a haven for boutique shopping, outdoor dining and nightlife along quaint Main St.

South Street/Penn's Landing
Unique shops, restaurants and bars are lined up along South Street where people watchers are many. Penn's Landing is a mecca for outdoor summer entertainment along the Delaware River.

Art Museum
Be sure to run the stairs of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, made famous by Rocky Balboa. Also situated along the Schuylkill River is Philadelphia's Boathouse Row, illuminated at night for a spectacular view. Along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, visitors are invited to visit the Franklin Institute and the Academy of Natural Sciences. The Philadelphia Zoo is located along West River Drive.

• First settled by Swedes in 1861 before the Dutch claimed the spot where the Delaware and Schuylkill Rivers converge. That was Broad Street he jogged down in the movie, an avenue once described as “…12 miles of street vendors, gas stations, used-car dealerships, fast-food joints, churches, synagogues, upscale restaurants, abandoned buildings, a museum, four armed forces recruiting stations, three hospitals and one circus.” Broad Street is actually 14th Street in Philly.

• Home of Drexel University and the University of Pennsylvania.
• Averages about 24 days each summer with temps at 90°F or higher, 92 days each year with daily lows of 32°F or lower. Philly has about 40 inches of rain per year and about 20 inches of snow/ice. The record high in Philadelphia is 104°F, and the record low is -7°F.

One of my favorite things to do in Philly is grab a cheese steak-- while Pats is the original, I'll take Geno's because its a much cleaner place.

Down the street (walking distance) during the day is the Italian Market. Its the best prices on produce/seafood with places that specialize in Cheese, Sausage, Lamb and plenty of Italian Foods.

They have a place that makes homemade pastas, ravioli and such.
If you don't leave with a taste of philly--there is something wrong.

AT night--South Street and its shops, its a quick walk and takes you to the river front. Just awesome-- might spend some time there this weekend now that I talked it up.

For all the post about "Filthadelphia" I see on the net-- its nothing like that.

after some years, philadelphia is rated as one of the best walking cities in the country. and it's no wonder why the city layout is simple to master and our neighborhood streets are filled with fun and diverse shops, restaurants, museums, parks and people.

the orange broad street line is great for going to a game or concert at the south philadelphia sports complex,visiting one of south philadelphia's famous italian restaurants, getting between hotels and cultural attractions on center city's impressive avenue of the arts or getting to one of the many activities and cultural institutions in north philadelphia.
